4. How Information Is Shared
We share information in the following ways.
With Other Members
Openly is a social app, so some information is shared with other members as part of the experience.
- Moments may be visible to signed-in members, including your username, age, gender, location label, Moment text, mood, tags, visual style, and opening question.
- Interest answers are shared with the member who created the Moment.
- Private chat messages are shared with the other chat participant.

With Service Providers
We use vendors and platform services to operate Openly. These may include:
- Apple services, including Sign in with Apple, App Store systems, and Apple Push Notification service.
- Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication.
- Firebase Cloud Firestore, Firebase Storage, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Cloud Functions for Firebase, and Google Cloud infrastructure.
- Hosting and repository services used to publish these policy pages.
These providers process information for app functionality, authentication, hosting, storage, notifications, security, diagnostics, and similar operational purposes. Their own terms and privacy policies may also apply.
For Safety, Legal, and Compliance Reasons
We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with law, legal process, or enforceable government requests.
- Enforce our Terms or Community Guidelines.
- Detect, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, spam, security incidents, or safety risks.
- Protect the rights, property, or safety of Openly, members, service providers, or the public.
- Respond to emergencies or potential harm.
Business Transfers
If Openly is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate protections where required.
With Your Direction or Consent
We may share information when you direct us to do so or give consent.
5. Sensitive Information
Some information in Openly can be sensitive, including gender identity, birthday, age, location coordinates, profile photos, private messages, and content about personal experiences. We use this information to provide Openly, maintain safety, comply with law, and support member-requested features. We do not use sensitive information to sell ads or to profile you for third-party targeted advertising.
6. No Sale, No Targeted Advertising
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or third-party targeted advertising. We do not currently use advertising SDKs.
If that changes, we will update this Policy and provide any choices required by law before using information in that way.
7. Your Choices and Controls
You can control certain information through the app and your device settings.
- Profile: You may update editable profile fields such as username, location, and profile photo where the app allows it. Birthday, age, and gender may be locked after setup.
- Location: You can deny or revoke location permission in iOS settings. Without location, local discovery may be limited or unavailable.
- Photos: You can control photo library access in iOS settings. Profile photo functionality may require a selected photo.
- Notifications: You can allow, mute, or disable push notifications in iOS settings.
- Sign-out: You can sign out in the app.
- Delete profile: You can delete your profile in the app where available. Deletion is intended to remove your profile, Moments, requests, chats, messages, reveal states, push tokens, and uploaded profile media from active app systems, subject to retention described below.
8. Retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide Openly, maintain security and safety, comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and support legitimate operational purposes.
- Active profile information is retained while your account exists.
- Moments are designed to expire from active feeds after approximately 30 days unless deleted earlier or made inactive.
- Deleting an individual Moment may remove it from active display while related records may remain for safety, abuse prevention, backups, analytics-free operational records, or legal reasons.
- Deleting your profile is intended to remove your core profile, active Moments, requests, chats, messages, reveal states, push tokens, and uploaded media from active app systems.
- Backup copies, logs, provider records, and legal/safety records may persist for a limited period or as required by law.
- If account deletion requires recent authentication from Apple, Google, or Firebase, the app may ask you to sign in again before the authentication account can be fully removed.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. For example, Openly uses authenticated access, Firebase security rules, platform permission prompts, and service-provider infrastructure.
No app, network, database, or transmission method is perfectly secure. You should use strong device security, keep your Apple or Google account secure, and be careful about what you share with other members.
10. Children and Age Restrictions
Openly is not for children or teenagers under 18. We do not knowingly allow people under 18 to create profiles, and the app requires age information during setup.
If you believe someone under 18 is using Openly, contact us through the available support channel. If we learn that we collected information from a person under 18 in violation of this Policy, we may delete the account and related information.
11. U.S. State Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live and whether a particular privacy law applies to Openly, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, or an explanation of how personal information is collected, used, and disclosed. You may also have the right to opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain uses of sensitive personal information.
Openly does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We use sensitive information only for purposes described in this Policy.
To exercise privacy rights, use the app tools available to you, including profile editing and profile deletion, or contact us through the support contact made available in the app, on the App Store product page, or through the official Openly repository while the app is in pre-release. We may need to verify your request before acting on it. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.
12. International Use
Openly is operated using service providers that may process information in the United States and other countries. If you use Openly from outside your country, your information may be transferred to and processed in places with different data protection laws than where you live.
13. App Store Privacy Details
Apple requires developers to provide accurate App Store privacy details. Based on the current Openly app, relevant data types may include identifiers, user content, photos, location, sensitive information, diagnostics, and other data linked to app functionality. This summary may change as features or third-party services change.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy as Openly changes. When we update it, we will revise the “Last updated” date and take additional steps if required by law or if changes are material.
15. Contact
For privacy questions or requests, use the support contact made available in the app, on the App Store product page, or through the official Openly repository while Openly is in pre-release.
