Community Guidelines
Openly is built for intentional conversations without pressure. These Community Guidelines explain what belongs here, what does not, and how members are expected to treat each other.
By using Openly, you agree to these Guidelines and the Terms of Service.
1. Be an Adult and Be Honest
Openly is for people who are 18 or older.
- Do not use Openly if you are under 18.
- Do not lie about your age, birthday, gender, location, photos, relationship status, identity, or intentions.
- Do not impersonate another person, use someone else’s photos, create misleading accounts, or create accounts for other people.
- Do not try to contact, solicit, exploit, sexualize, or share content involving minors.
Authenticity is part of safety. A playful profile is fine. A deceptive one is not.
2. Lead With Respect
Openly works best when people feel free to be curious without being cornered.
- Treat other members with basic dignity, even when you are not interested.
- Keep Moments and opening answers thoughtful and truthful.
- Do not insult, mock, shame, demean, or repeatedly contact someone who is not engaging.
- Do not attack someone for declining, ignoring, blocking, reporting, or ending a conversation.
- Do not use Openly to settle disputes, organize harassment, or punish someone outside the app.
3. Consent and Boundaries Come First
Mutual reveal is designed to give people control over when profile details become visible. Respect that design.
- Do not pressure someone to reveal, meet, send photos, share contact details, or move off Openly.
- Do not guilt, threaten, bargain, or manipulate someone into continuing a conversation.
- Do not send sexual messages, romantic pressure, or repeated compliments after someone sets a boundary.
- Do not screenshot, save, publish, or share another person’s private content in a way that violates their consent, privacy, or safety.
- If someone says no, stops responding, or seems uncomfortable, back off.
4. Keep Content Safe for a Trust-Based Community
The following content and behavior are not allowed:
- Threats, violence, encouragement of violence, or praise of violent harm.
- Harassment, bullying, stalking, intimidation, doxing, swatting, or attempts to expose private information.
- Hate, dehumanization, slurs, or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, veteran status, immigration status, or other protected traits.
- Sexual exploitation, non-consensual sexual content, explicit sexual images, sexual content involving minors, or requests for sexual images from anyone who has not clearly consented.
- Graphic violence, gore, cruelty, or content intended mainly to shock.
- Self-harm encouragement, suicide encouragement, eating-disorder coaching, or instructions for serious physical harm.
- Scams, phishing, blackmail, extortion, romance fraud, investment schemes, payment requests, credential requests, or pressure to send money or gifts.
- Spam, mass messaging, ads, recruiting, political persuasion campaigns, scraping, bots, fake engagement, or other platform manipulation.
- Illegal goods or services, instructions for wrongdoing, or attempts to coordinate illegal activity.
- Malware, exploit attempts, security probing, or attempts to bypass Openly’s limits or safety features.
5. Use Photos and Visuals Responsibly
Profile photos and uploaded images should represent you and should be appropriate for an app centered on conversation.
- Use photos you have the right to use.
- Do not upload nudity, sexually explicit images, violent imagery, hateful symbols, or images meant to harass or expose someone.
- Do not upload images of other people in a misleading way.
- Do not use profile photos to advertise, impersonate, or evade enforcement.
6. Protect Privacy and Safety
Openly may use location to show local Moments, but location-aware features must never be used to pressure, follow, stalk, or identify someone’s exact whereabouts.
- Do not ask for home addresses, workplace details, financial information, login codes, private IDs, or other sensitive information early in a conversation.
- Do not share another person’s personal information without permission.
- Do not encourage someone to put themselves in danger or isolate themselves from people they trust.
- If you meet outside the app, choose a public place, arrange your own transportation, and tell someone you trust.
7. Report Problems
If reporting or blocking tools are available in the app, use them when someone violates these Guidelines or makes you feel unsafe. If in-app tools are not yet available, use the support contact listed in the app, App Store product page, or official Openly repository while Openly is in pre-release.
If there is immediate danger, contact local emergency services. In the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline when someone may be in emotional crisis.
8. Enforcement
We may remove content, limit visibility, warn members, suspend accounts, delete accounts, preserve information, or report serious issues to law enforcement when we believe it is necessary to protect people, Openly, or our service providers.
Context matters, and enforcement decisions may consider severity, pattern, intent, risk, and available evidence. We may take action even if behavior happens partly off Openly when it creates risk for Openly members or the service.
9. These Guidelines Will Evolve
Openly is still growing. We may update these Guidelines as the product, community, risks, and moderation tools evolve. The latest version will be posted here.
